My love of fitness training lies in helping people improve the quality of their own lives by helping them move better, feel better, and look better. I do not love the gym and I don’t expect you to love it either. I’d much rather you love yourself and treat your body accordingly. So long as you are able to move, the world is your gym. Here are some of the things that bring me immense joy and that I want to share with you: challenge, variety, excellent movement quality, delicious, perishable food, activities that you truly enjoy, superb form, coordination, strength, appreciation for your own body and its ability, and finding ways to create really fun workouts in any setting. Although I am TRX certified, can’t get enough of the medicine ball, bosu, kettle bells, and wobble board, and will use anything you have in your home, office, or hotel room to create a great exercise program. I work with a keen understanding that your body is the most valuable and versatile piece of equipment you have. My own training is an evolution that started with road running and cross country in the ’90s, injury in 2002, recovery and eventual distance (25k) trail running. To prevent further injury, in my thirties I began practicing yoga and started strength training. I met Nate Regensburg at the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) and was taken with his passion for human movement and his enthusiasm for training the body to move, feel, and look better through proper neuromuscular programming, or in lay terms, excellent movement quality. Certified through NPTI and Nation Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), I continue to study anatomy and human movement, nutrition for weight loss and athletic performance, and injury prevention and rehabilitation. I am currently a member of Idea Health & Fitness Association as well as the NPTI Advisory Board.

“James made me realize that there was so much more to working out than just moving weights. James taught me that core strength, balance, and muscle endurance go hand in hand with raw strength and power.” – Luke E.
